My New Sketchbook
When I went to the Blick Art Materials store to stock up last Tuesday, I saw a leather-bound sketchbook that I really liked and really wanted. After thinking it over, I decided to go ahead and buy it, but I made myself promise that, no matter what, I would commit myself to strengthening my creativity by drawing in one page per day. It’s been an interesting journey so far, and I’d love to share some of the results here.
(Btw, you may be wondering why I only share excerpts of my sketchbook pages rather than the full page. The reason is that full sketchbook pages are only available to my email subscribers. The full pages have much more detail and humor, and accessing them is as easy as joining. Won’t you consider it? It’s easy and free…)
One thing that has happened a lot when drawing these pages is that I’m influenced by whatever is going on that day. Below is a very emotional drawing that just came pouring out of me the day I found out about the vote to overturn Roe v Wade.
And other times, I’m inspired by whatever I did or had panned to do that day. Below is one I did when I got home from a quick bike ride.
The most important thing for me, when drawing these pages, is to make sure the drawings look good. If they don’t look good, then I’m just wasting my time and my skill stagnates.
I’ve been at this for a little more than a week, so we’ll see what other exciting developments come up, and I’ll be sure to keep you posted!
Do you keep a sketchbook? Tell me about it in the comments! I’d love to see it.
